You have to run ifconfig as root user...

but i did and it said that the command wasnt recoignize...

ifconfig is a Linux command. If it does not work on your terminal, there may be a PATH issue. Do "man ifconfig" to see if it is installed. If it is there, then search for the file---go to that directory, and run it from there.
