Can I load adobe CS4 onto the Linux Opperating system?

Theoretically not! Practically yes! You can run many win programs under Wine. You can try to install Wine and then Adobe CS4 under Wine. Better if you have the possibility to download a free evaluation version of Adobe CS4 before discovering you cannot run a software for which you paid money.

Keep in mind that CS4 is much more than just Photoshop....So GIMP might not be the answer.

In addition to WINE, look at CrossOver: http://www.codeweavers.com/
This is the commercial port of WINE, and sometimes supports things that WINE (without tweaking) does not

If not CS4...

If you need and want Photoshop and have trouble with CS4, you might try to get a copy of Photoshop 7. It is said to work well under WINE. Good Luck

In addition, see this for a better response.

Its not only Photoshop that I need its aftereffects, premier and encore. Is there a Linux programme that can author DVD's as well as Encore?

If you are locked into the entire CS suite, you might be better off with a Mac.

Did you check into CrossOver? I seem to remember that they (Codeweavers) had a contract with a film producer to get Photoshop working on Linux. They are a good resource.....
