HELP PLEASE! =] bootable CD

Thanks 4 looking.

Urrm, ive downloaded Ubuntu to my desktop and its an Unknown file (is it meant to be?).

& i've used the InfraRecorder software and put it on the CD (as an Image thingy...)

and i cant work out why it won't let me boot from the CD.

I've set it so that the CD Drive boots first in the BIOS and it still does nothing.

Could you please help meee! :D

Did you check the md5sum? Your download might have been corrupted. There are md5sum utilities for windows. They calculate a number (the md5sum) that you can compare with the md5sum that is on the page from where you downloaded Ubuntu.

If you have another PC, try the CD in there. If that works, your CD is fine.
If you have a windows install disk, try that one in your PC; if it boots, your boot sequence is fine.

Whence you downloaded the image? Here? If so, there is an MD5SUMS file provided to insure the integrity of your download (there is also a pgp signature, to insure the validity of the MD5SUMS file).
It should be an ISO image file (a file containing the image of an ISO 9660 filesystem) with the extension “.iso” (e.g., “ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso”).
So I assumed you followed the intructions here. If you burned the disc correctly, you should be able to browse the filesystem contents with Windows Explorer (e.g., from within Windows, when you put your CD in the drive, go to My Computer, and open your CD drive you will see all the files listed here. You might even get a greeting from the autorun program upon inserting the CD into the drive).
Do you have any other bootable CD’s that you know to work with your BIOS (e.g., a Windows Rescue CD)?
