screen frezzes when i hit X ..
 
I have installed slackware 9.1. when i type X and hit enter my sceen freezes and looks kind of grey with black vertical stripes. there is a x inthe middle of the screen, but when i move the mouse it dissapers.. what to do? first timer..:scratch:

First, more descriptive titles mean more replies.
Try running

xwmconfig
as root and choose a window manager. Then startx again and see what happens. If that doesn't work, post your /etc/XF86Config here and we'll see what's going on.

Assuming you're still stuck at the command line:

Try dave bean's suggestion first though.

Thank you! it works with startx but my mouse jumps to the upper right corner and stays there.. any clue?
