Help needed getting sound working on fedora core 1,kde, on dell inspiron 4150
Hello everybody
I have no idea whatsoever onn how to set up sound on my dell 4150 fedora core 1. im very new to linux. When i installed Fedora, there was a thing about sound where it tried to autodetect my sound card. However, when i clicked the play test sound i didnt hear anything. My laptop's manual says this about sound: Quote:
It may be as simple as the volume is muted, I can't figure out how to change it :( Please help me. And thank you |
googling a bit turned up these
http://www.fs.tum.de/~rutzi/dell-lin...ux-laptop.html http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=151271 which say basically that the card is compatible with this module http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...odule=intel8x0 hope that helps. good luck. |
well i installed ALSA, and now i have sound working, but i dont know how to adjust the volume in linux ... i know .. im a newbie ....
|
try from a terminal
alsamixer unmute anything that looks important, and set your default volume levels. then to save those settings across a reboot run aslactl store hope that helps. good luck. |
alsamixer doesnt work. all it lets me adjust is the volume of my mic on my webcam :s
|
try any of your other mixers, aumix, is one off the top of my head. w/alsamixer you have to unmute the settings before you can adjust volume. try hitting the "m" key, no quotes, that should unmute, then you can adjust volumes. if it still isn't working, you probably don't have everything installed.
good luck. |
well it seems that my webcam was taking over all the sound so i just unplugged it and then restarted and now it works.
|
glad you got it sorted. thanks for posting a response as this may help someone els in the future.

So note to everybody: Try removing devices that may be conflicting, it helps :D
