Help needed asap
 
Ok so ill start off with saying ive been running a mini server farm for ftp hosting for a long time and been using microsoft server 2003.

I HATE IT

i hate microsoft server. its been giving me all sorts of trouble and i cant afford the down time.
ok so what im asking is you guessed it, what operating system should i pick?

my servers run a standard ide config
and im very experianced in ubuntu
thats the only distro ive used mainly, but i dont like using it as a server either, so what im looking for is a operating system that can run a graphical interface with a graphical ftp server. like gproftpd.

i want a os that deosnt have much to it but can easiely be set up and get going quick
i also have to be able to remote desktop it from a windows machine.

my servers have to hard drives, i want to merge them together as i can in windows to make a big one

im a noob ill admit so i need advice

Try debian squeeze, I'm a newbie also, but most of the defaults work out the box.
Choose expert install

Please use better thread titles in future, i.e. ones that say something about your question/problem. You are told to do this when posting a thread, so there's really no excuse. In addition, don't use "asap" or "urgent" in titles, because it's not going to help you get help any faster.

It was an unhelpful and unattractive thread title.

You want to mirror those HDDs or merge them into a single logical volume? LVM is the way to go for the second.

If the help is given in this thread rather than by private communications then it may help somebody else too.

When I look at job listings I see corporations asking for expertise in RHEL and Cent OS. I'd get one of those.

BTW your thread title leaves a lot of room for improvement. A title like "Help" isn't very informative. You should say something about the subject in the thread title. And, specifying ASAP or urgent is just irritating. It won't provoke a faster response. It may, in fact, cause many people to overlook your thread.
