first thing is make sure the user has permission

.bin is installed by running it like this

/path/to/file/filename.bin

or

cd /path/to/file

./filename.bin

.rpm files can be installed like this

rpm -i /path/to/file/filename.rpm

or

cd /path/to/file
rpm -i ./filename.rpm

see

rpm --help

or

info rpm

for more options

ntfs is mounted same as other file system types

mkdir /myntfs

mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /myntfs

if this does not work then it may not be enabled in the kernel

some distros will install it by default when you install windows connectivity

some won't

write access to ntfs is dangerous

run this command

mount

if you see this

/dev/hda1 on /myntfs type ntfs (rw)

then you can really screw things up on that ntfs partition.

I would use the ro option

umount /myntfs

mount -t ntfs -o ro /dev/hda1 /myntfs

mount

/dev/hda1 on /myntfs type ntfs (ro)

Mandrake 8.1 by default installed the rw option

RedHat does not install the option at all by default
