What does it say when it reboots? What were the specs on the old computer, and what are the specs on the new one. It could be that the kernel you are using does not recognize/support the hardware on the new computer. Sometimes it takes more than switching out harddrives.

the 'old' computer was an intel Xeon 2.4 GHz/533MHz dual processor with 1g memory, the 'new' computer where i moved the drive is a simple VIA motherboard (p3 with 128m ram)

there is no message, i can boot into the GRUB menu but just when it needs to start and boot the PC reboot itself instantly.
