Help mounting smb share on fedora 12

Hello, I have some experience with linux but i'm a little rusty. For some reason, the nautilius is not detecting my samba shares. I'm using fedora 12 (from mythdora) to use mythtv. Also, when i tried using mount -t cifs i have to do it via ip. but i want to do it via name. i have a linkstation wiith the name lgl045. on ubuntu i could do it. now i don't know why i can't. although if i type smbtree it shows everything.
so I would like to do it that way and be able to mount the drive at startup to a 'media folder' without having to mount it manually Thanks in advance

the very first thing is to install Fedora 19
a new clean install

Fedora 12 is 7 and soon to be 8 versions OUT of date

hi, i'm aware is outdated. HOwever, i must use that one due to the fact that new versions of linux does not support my video card. this is an old computer. so that's why i decided for that one. i can do it via ip and put static ip but i do not really want to do it that way.

MythTV runs also on CentOS
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Installin...entOS#RHEL_6.x

what is this OLD 3d card
( for example)
I have a 12 year old computer with a Nvidia Gforce2 mx 400 card
the legacy Nvidia driver DOSE support it
BUT Xorg/x11 dose NOT !!! in the new versions

so to use the very old 96 nvidia driver x11 older that 1.12 MUST be used

CentOS 5.10 uses xorg 1.1.1
and centOS 6.4 can be DOWNGRADED to use xorg 1.12 from the default 1.13

now if this is a very old AMD card like a "rage" that ? i am unsure of

a CentOS myth tv install will be MORE secure than using a UNSUPPORTED And NEVER to be updated Operating system that has NEVER to be fixed " FOREVER DAY" holes

but if you MUST and i do mean MUST use a dead and NEVER to be fixed Operating System

you might want to register over at "fedoraforum" and look at the " End Of Life" section
