Modem Driver installation problem
Dear mr. lynch
I have 2.4.18-3 kernel and when I try to install rpm using #rpm -Uvh sm56_5.1_i386.rpm # sm56setup [country code] it is giving bash: no command find sm56setup why ? and how to solve it. |
did you try locating sm56setup (e.g. whereis sm56setup) and executing it using the whole path?
E.g. /usr/bin/sm56setup Anne |
Anne's right:navigate to the directory the rpm is in and try the command again.;)

Heres my 2cents on this, even when you install the driver, you linux distro will not recognize that modem. What you should try doing is, install this dialer called wvdial http://open.nit.ca/wiki/ and type this in console:
wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf this will try to detect the modem. If it doesnt detect it than your drivers were not installed properly or were wrong drivers. You can also try kppp which will try to look for your modem but i'll try wvdial first. Good Luck |
Hi, im having the same problem as the guys on the forums stating that they cannot get there sm56k modem to work.
I have a clevo/ kapok (shit brand) notebook. I have 4 OS on there and want to learn Linux. I need to get the modem and sound card to work. would like my video card to work as well through VM ware but thats another story. I do not know how to compile my kernel as i have read the readme when downloading the drivers. In the make file i have to specify some directories ? can you please help ? much appreciated. |
