Maybe you're having permission issues. Check if the folder where you are trying to copy/paste/move
your file is writeable to you. Maybe something happened and you changed your permissions.
Type this in your command:
Code:
sudo chmod 777 /home/yourname/Desktop
and then try again.

Further explanation...... I am cannot set up shortcuts directly (drag and drop) on the Enlightement desktop or in the shelf...
I can however when I open the file desktop system itself..Then I open with file manager.
is this how it is supposed to work??
Looks great but is getting complicated...

Which window manager are you using? I never heard of something like that on KDE or GNOME.
I think it should work everywhere. Perhaps your file browser is strange.

Unhappy Geubuntu desktop I cannot drag & Drop

I was working with Geubuntu 7.10 from OSDisc.com and using the manager that comes with the sys. I am in ubuntu writing this and have no problem whatsoever.
Is there a picture of a Geubuntu desktop layout somewhere with an icon shortcut layout..

Warning

E17 is Beta software, it's still in development, so it may segfault for no apparent reason at any time even if it's much more stable than before now and since it is being hard developed it will become ever and ever more stable. This won't make your entire system freeze or shut down, after all. You'll almost always be able to recover E17 (it never happened to me not to be able to recover it), so you're work will be relatively secure and OK, but always rember that E17 is still a beta, so it's impossible for Geubuntu to provide a 100% stable version of this distro until a stable release of E17 happens and that may happen on the first months of 2008.
That was take from the website so it may be a bug in the software.

Thumbs up desktop

Looks as of e17 is a shell and desktop icons can be made visible through it or not. When in desktop all is well drag & drop etc, I just have to get used to the e17 cover.
I am using opengeu now and have settled for no visible icons, go to desktop through Thunar to get my stuff and it sure works.
I have tried PclinuxoS,(works great on our desktop) ubuntu 7.10, gOS (may be great), Geubuntu, Linux Mint (great) & I have puppy and pclinuxos small to check yet.. (all on an old computer I have)
I have settled on Opengeu for now on my inspron b120 laptop and all is well.
Thanks

I don't understand your love for Enlightenment. I used it on a friend's computer for about a month while I didn't have a computer (mobo died), and I found it incredibly buggy...and definitely not easy to customize.

Sure, it looks pretty, but it's not very functional and it's not very efficient.

This is, of course, my opinion. If you like it, great. I just wish I could understand why. =\

Thumbs up Opengeu

I'm retired and not in love with any os but I have the time to check them out. I like the system desktop cover idea, complicates access to files but consider the ideas and skill involved with producing the e17 systems.. My most likely working os looks to be PclinuxoS.
I Down loaded and burned Kubuntu last evening... looks somewhat like PclinuxoS but I'll drive it later and may have something to say then.
Why the general public does not know more about Linux beats me.
best regards.

That's actually a very easy question to answer.
