Help me setup my Wireless card in SUSE 10.3 PLEASE! (Desperate)

I have recently installed SUSE 10.3 onto a seperate hard drive to my Windoze XP setup and am having trouble getting it to conncet to the network. i have a NETGEAR WG311T Wireless card. What steps do I need to take to get myself set up?

Welcome to LQ!!

First, we have to see if you have a driver installed. Try these commands
ifconfig -a (see if there is something that looks like wireless--eg if it finds "wlan0" or both "eth0" and "eth1")
lspci (to see how your card is seen on the bus)
dmesg|grep <keyword> (For <keyword> put in something from the lspci output---eg, if lspci includes "WG311", then do "dmesg|grep WG311"

If you card is not being detected, you need to install a driver. Start by searching using your package manager.

Then how about helping a new user out and linking to a couple of the most useful sites. Having an experience Linux user point out one or two of the best sites is usually a much more helpful that a "Go google it", particularly when the topic is as fraught with misinformation as Linux wireless is.

Ok...allow me to follow my own instructions. I did give him the search terms.

typed what i suggested into google:

I don't use his hardware or distro so its tough for me to just pick one search result...so heres a few from the first page

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.. Teach him how to fish and he eats for life (or somthing along those lines)

in retrospect i guess i could have pointed out that he should follow one of the more recent hits that the search pulls up but this seemed logical to me.

(this strategy has been working for me since i first picked up linux)

But from another perspective!:

How about all users on the forum contribute what they can in the free time that they have, while they're off the clock.
As i said i know nothing about his hardware or distribution so altho i may be able to give some more details about my distro/hardware of choice, i figured that i could at least try to point a newcomer in the right direction.

But what if he's a vegetarian......;)

Seriously, while we're arguing about how to help OP, let's watch and see if he goes missing on us. I SWEAR that this (The single-post transient) is on the rise.....

That can become a self-fulfilling prophecy....

If you want to get it working, then we can help you.

Please go back and read pixellany's first response to your question. The information requested is pretty vital to anyone helping you and we're not going to be able to do anything without it. If you have any questions about how to do what pixellany asked, please ask a specific question.
