Help Me Please:(
 

I decided not to set up additional user accounts and set no password on root, when i boot it comes to the log in screen and there is no username name box (im guessing cuz there is just root) and there is a password box...i didnt set a password so when i click log in it fails and the log in screen does the dumb shake thing....can someone please help me? is there a way i can go into text mode and add a user or something?

If you enter 'root' as the login name and then nothing for the password, does that not let you in ?

Do you have the installation CD's ?

i cant enter anything in the username field, its greyed out

yes i have the cds, i dont really want to reinstall though

using help me please in the subject line is not a way to get help. Perhaps you should read the linuxquestions guidlines.

I would check to see if root is allowed to login thru gdm or whatever you are using. if you do ctrl + alt+ bcksp that will kill x then you can type root at the prompt, hit enter for password, and type startx to start the desktop.
