Hi, i just installed mandrake 8.2 last night for the first time ever:newbie: and i have a few problems:Pengy:, my ADSL modem isnt being reconised as a modem:confused:, i went into an option and it said connexant in wot ever pci slot it was in, but it didnt say anything bout modem (connexant is the name of the modem ) Its asif it knows its there but dosent no what it is. Also is there any way i can see my windows drive and whats on it from linux ??:rolleyes:
Coz i would like to use things like MP3's and pictures stored on my windows drive.It also wownt let me access my CD rom drive as it says sumet about security:tisk: , but i think i no why so i aint botherd about that just yet.
I have a few more questions but ill wait till i get these answerd.:cool:

many of these questions are asked a lot, please try using the search facilities. for example search for "vfat fstab" for the windows drive part.

eat it.

if your windows is on ntfs, you can only read it in linux.
i think mandrake would have set it up for you if you
had fat32(vfat).

you can read and write to ntfs , may need the ntfs module install,
open google and type ntfs rpm
there is a guy that makes ntfs rpms, esay to install and works like charming.

1st. For your modem, you're prob going to have to get a driver for linux. Identify your modem's device by viewing /proc/pci or /etc/sysconfig/hwconf. Then get the appro. driver and unpackage it. Continue with modem setup.

2nd. Your going to have to mount your NTFS partition on another part of the filesystem. I recommend creating the dir /windows, and then issuing the command:
mount -t ntfs /dev/**windows partition file /windows. Then you can browse READ ONLY through your windows filesys

That's when M$ sells you a product for the highest price they dare ask, require all your details, but don't give any about how the product works.

Or: that's when we support M$ with our dear savings for making more insecure, buggy, not-complying-to-standards software.
