Help me in outlook mail access problem in squid proxy in RHEL 5

I'm new user on linux. The place where I work require internet access for several computers so I set the lan to access internet through proxy server, & I'm using squid for it & it works. But the problem is my lan users cannot retrieve their email by using email client software like thunderbird or outlook. What configuration on the squid I should change so it can forward email using pop3 protocol, thanks !

Is your squid proxy also the default gateway for your network? In that case you will need to configure iptables to forward pop3 (and possibly imap). You may also need to set net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 in /etc/sysctl.conf

That is kind of an open ended set of questions. This is a good job for learning sysadmin on linux, although a bit advanced perhaps. What you might want to do is read the documentation for squid and iptables, both the man pages as well as the documentation on the respective sites, google for 'squid transparent proxy' and just get started and experimenting. If you get stuck on something specific, come back here and we will help you out. Does that sound ok?
