I suspect Physical Volume. He may want to change the hostname or he wants to rename a volume.

What, like a IDE device ID? Is it possible to change it using fdisk?

What system do you have and why do you need this?

On Linux the physical volume name doesn't matter much as far as I can tell. Most often volumes are accessed by their mountpoints and these can be changed in /etc/fstab (you also have to create the mountpoints with mkdir or something like that).

Changing the hostname would be something entirely different.

And if you want to change something like the serial number or other internal hardware values of the hard disk to trick recent Windows versions, then this is the wrong forum to post.

Bye,
M
