hi i have a acer aspire one on linux and the desktop with all the programs on has disappered all that is there is a black and white stripey background could someone please help me it is only 3 weeks old?

Try a better subject line next time, it says right next to where you type the subject, not to use that as a subject.

Do you ever see anything *normal* on the display.... Like your Grub menu etc, or does nothing appear on the display? It sounsd hardware related. If you want to rule out software, download another ISO, and unetbootin to boot a thumb drive, and see if it comes up nmormal. If it comes up normal when running a live version from a thumb drive, then you have some sort of hardware issue.

What were you doing before the problem occured?

Did you make any changes?

Start it up several times and try to notice any messages during startup---and see if it does the same thing every time.
