Which desktop environment are you using: KDE, Gnome or Xfce?

You can help yourself by having a better thread title than "help me" in the future.

As far as your problem...perhaps you have some application specific settings blocking your mouse from working. More than likely this is something defined in your Desktop Environment's settings.

Could you provide more information? What is your desktop environment? Are you using any Firefox extensions (particularly ones that affect the mouse)? What distro are you using?

Are you sure Firefox is the only app that scrolling is not working in?

Heh, I was going to say something about that, but I think you put it as eloquently as possible.

The only possible thing I can think of without knowing any pertinent information, is if you're using KDE, the mouse settings for KDE may not carry over into the GTK+ settings - the reason for this though, is completely beyond my knowledge.

Information, man, we need information! Linux isn't standardized ad nauseum (*cough*Windows*cough*).

... and what if the idea is complicated?

Welcome to LQ. We are all volunteers here... if you want to know how to write better questions, try reading the tutorial or the long advise in my sig.

There are many things that could stop your mouse wheel from "working" in a given app. You need to clarify:

Which "Mozilla" is this? (Mozilla has several products.)
What is it about the mousewheel that doesn't work? (What are you trying to do with it?)
Are you doing this under linux or windows?

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...508/page2.html

in /etc/xorg.conf

under "InputDevice"
put this:

Option "Protocol" "imps/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

For some reason, I've also only had success with the mouse in general by also putting this in the secion:

Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"

Heh... hopefully this is a mozilla app running in linux.

There are windows versions too. And many windows "power users" like to add special extras to the windows scrollwheel - so called "advanced mouse settings" and such. These extras often fail when an app that doesn't rely on Windows' gets the focus. So "mouse wheel doesn't work" could mean that "proprietary 3rd party add-on feature xyz for windows mouse-wheel has stopped happening."

If you google "mouse wheel mozilla", these things dominate the hits.

So this is where OP pops up to explain.
