Help Making Gnome Do A Dock

I've installed Gnome Do, but I'm having trouble making it more than just a box that appears in the middle of my screen.

From all the screen-shots I've seen it appears as a panel at the bottom of the screen.

How can I accomplish this? The man page has about 5 words in it and the website's documentation is non-existent.

Any help would be appreciated.

In Gnome-do right click on the popup, choose preferences. Then under the appearance tab, got to selected theme you can select Docky. If it is grayed out, than you need to use composting manger. You can use Compiz, or Metacity's composting manager.

That's the thing, there is no preferences tab on that right arrow. Not even one to be greyed out.

I followed some other directions, that instructed me to switch to metacity in gconf-editor (and that screwed everything up). I finally got everything back to normal, but still no arrow.

What Distro and release of do are you using? I am using 0.8.2. If you are using an older release of Gnome-do, docky may not be an option, I am not sure when it was added to Gnome-do. Your profile says you are using Debian. If you are using Lenny it looks like it uses gnome-do 0.4.2.0-1. You could add the sid repos to get a newer version of Gnome-Do. I think sid is using release 0.8.0-1 0.

Gnome Do is 0.4.2.0 and Debian is 5.0.4 (not sure what nickname that is).

Can you point me in the direction of adding "sid repositories"?

Thanks for your help.

I would search the LQ forums and check the Debian forums on how to add repos in Debian. Here are two post I found first from LQ suggesting to compile Gnome-do from source, the second from the Debian forums talks about adding repos and maintaining a mixed system. Just be cautious so you don't break your install. There seem to be quite a few knowledgeable Debian users on these forums. They should have sound advice on what the best way to install a newer version of Gnome-do. Good luck and have fun learning
