Help: Laptop not detecting OHP

Hellow every body.Iam new to Linux.I hope the experienced members of Linux will assist me in some of my inquiries.Why is my lap top when connected to Over head projector(OHP) did not detect it(OHP)?There is still signal coming from the OHP when the power is on which I assumes it is still functioning well.I am looking foreward for your positive response.

Does the OHP work on other computers? On other operating system(s) on your laptop (if any)?

What distribution/version are you running?
What is the make/model of laptop?

Did you try turning on the laptop second monitor output via the correct function keys? If so what happened?
