i have 3 live cds.. ubuntu 6.10 fed core 6 and bt3
All of those are old. Ubuntu's latest version is 10.04, Fedora is 12 (13 soon if not already), and Backtrack now has version 4. My suggestion remains the same: pick a distribution from the top ten at distrowatch, burn a fresh, new version, and try it out.
I think most experienced users have gone through several different distros before settling on one that suits them. I have tried literally dozens before I settled on the ones in my signature, and I still play around installing different ones just because I can (and its fun).
While we're not here to hold your hand, if you pick a distro that's fairly user-friendly, and make an honest effort to solve your problem(s) first, we're here to help you along the way. Happy exploring!
