Help Installing Mandrake 9.1 -- Dual Boot w/ XP

Ok.. I got a Linux Beginners Administration Guide that will help me w/ all my needs hopefully and learning Linux.

Now.. Right now i have 2 Fat32 Partitions 1 w/ windows xp on it 45 gigs and the other is just a fat32 which i want to put linux on (15 gigs).

I already have the disks for Mandrake 9.1 on disk and i have Partition Magic 8 already installed...

How would i go about getting rid of the 15gig fat32 partition so that i can install Linux onto that as well as setting up the Dual Boot screen.

Please you can answer here or IM me on AIM.
Either DaXtreme690 or Noxious986 i'll be on.

thanks

If you are used to using the win98 fdisk - then boot with a win98 boot disk and run fdisk - delete the second partition.
When you install linux you should get an option to install on the unused space - just do that.

With PQ magic, right click the fat32 partition you want to delete and select "Delete"

I've only installed RedHat but I believe Mandrake is pretty similar. It's very unlikely that Mandrake will just overwrite your 45GB partition, if it's anything like RedHat it'll ask you on which partition to install it. Linux doesn't use FAT32 but Mandrake's installation should be able to format to create the correct filesystem for you. Incidentally, linux actually needs 3 partitions - boot, root and swap. Don't worry though, point it in the direction of that 15GB partition and it should be able to do it all for you.
Click carefully and it'll all be okay

You can't install Mandrake onto a FAT32 partition.

Remove the partitions that you don't want and the install will create the partitions it qrequires from the free space.
