HELP! Installing SuSE Live-Eval 8.0

somebody, anybody! please help!

I have a problem with installing the LiveEval CD.

Firstly i tried installing with CDboot option. I changed the bios settings but when i tried booting it I get 'failure' message. I tried with a Norton Antivirus Bootable CD and this worked fine.

I then created a boot disk using the rawrite utility on the cd and then tried to boot. I get through to the initial screen but then i get the message: cannot find ramdisk image : initrd. Press any key to restart.

I do not know what the problem is. I have over 3GB of space available and 128 MB of RAM. I have tried just about everthing, but i cannot get it to install. I've even reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows.

I'm really getting annoyed, please help!

Your Live-Eval CD must be corrupted. Try check the MD5SUMS before you burn the iso. Try download it again if it doesn't match.

Try SuSE Linux Live-Eval 8.1 for its better in terms of hardware detection. don't waste your time reinstalling windows. Aint gonna work ;-)

1. am using Live-Eval to evaluate it and get a feel for what Linux is like without installing on the hard drive.

2. How do you check MD5SUMS. This copy was given to me by someone else - it would take me YEARS to download it.

I'd be most grateful for any help. thank you.

PS. Are all linux versions similar in terms of using commands (eg. useradd etc?).

Use this command:

md5sum thedownloaded.iso

If the number match with the one in the ftp/web server, go ahead, burn it.

Have a lot of fun!

You should try Knoppix (www.knoppix.net) before suse. I has more software crambed into one cd. and it is easier to use. Almost no user input to start. Of course you should have a good iso file for it to work
