Help installing kino

Hi everyone,

I was finally able to get kino to install on my machine but attempting to run it shows I still have a lot of work to do.

The icon is displayed in the Sounds and Video menu on the desktop (FC4). Clicking causes and an attempt to load and then nothing. Trying to start it from the console produces the following error:

"error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0 : ELF
file data encoding not little-endian"

Also, I do not believe the kernel has the 1394 port support or configured. When I run dvgrab, I get the following:

"raw1394 - failed to get handle: no such file or directory."

Anyone with any ideas on how to handle this. I understand that kino is the best app for capturing video from my Sony Handycam. I was able to install Cinelerra without a hitch, but it is a compicated app and still will not recognize the 1394 port.

Any help very much appreciated.

Bob

That's the problem. And I think
Quote:

"error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0 : ELF
file data encoding not little-endian"
you should recompile faad for generating libfaad.so.0 with options maybe "--little-endian" or something like that. Try "./configure -help" when compiling the software.

Recompile the kernel for another problem.

Thank you very much for your help and suggestion. A simple reinstall of faad2 and libraw1394 worked perfectly. Winthin minutes I was capturing video. By the way, do you know anything about Cinelerra? Looks like a great app, but very resource hungary. Kino does not include any editing effects whereas Cinelerra looks comparable to commercial programs I have seen. Just wondering.

Thanks again.

Bob
