help in device driver


i have a question 'bout ejecting the hdd..why is it that you have to log-in first as root before you eject the hdd? do you have any idea how to eject the hdd as an ordinary user...lol..

btw, im refering to the command line...as what i've learned, the user has no acces to this command "eject /dev/hdd"...you have to log-in first as a root in order to activate the command(using the "su" then type the root password)...

Huh? I don't need to do that? Did you right-click on the drive and select "unmount" first?

no no, im using the command line..im refering to the command used in ejecting the hdd...like "eject /dev/hdd"...
