Help in deciphering a msg during install?
Well I didnt get too far with my Red Hat 9 install before hitting a brick wall.
I have two drives on my system, the first is a 40gb drive on which I have my Windows install, and the second HDD is 100gb. Thats where Im installing the Linux OS. I get to the partitioning, and the first partition I want to install is the root (/). A resource here suggested I install the following partitions: / (root) 2GB root to install everything else under /boot 100MB for the kernal etc /usr 7GB programs, applications area /home 20GB User files and stuff swap 1GB So I go to the manual partition, and click NEW to define a new partition and select / (Boot). I then type in 2000 as the #mb fixed size for the partition. I get this message: "Warning: Boot parition / may not meet booting constraints for your architecture. Creation of a boot disk iis highly encouraged" Is this because I am installing on the second HDD of my system? If so, thats ok, because I intend to boot Linux from a disk anyway because GRUB cant support dual boot win WinXP on the primary HDD anyway. Should I be worried about this? Kork :newbie: |
Red Hat does this quite often. The reason is probably the one you've stated, so no, don't worry and make a boot floppy.

hi
its just a warning. use a boot disk for safety. i never had issues with grub on the second disk with newer bios system. the older 1024 cylinder limitation does not apply to modern systems regards rahul sundaram |
