Help, I need a linux distro for complete beginners!
 

Hello LQ! My aunt has Kubuntu installed on her desktop, and today she was complaining that it's shit, it's hard and whatnot...and that windows is better LMAO!!!! So do you guys have any suggestions for linux distros that are extremely user friendly and easy to use?? Thanks in advance :D

What computer specs?
Try to use Mandriva any on KDE and GNOME Desktop also Ubuntu is good for beginners.

The only one I've heard of that's 'easier' is probably Mint ... however, the main problem with most (non-tech) users is that Linux is 'different', in which case unless you want to spend some time explaining how-to to her, she might be better off going back to MS.
Note that here have been some studies that show that none of MAC/MS/Linux are easy/intuitive to someone who has never used a computer, but most people who have, have used MS, so it's what they are used to and most aren't really interested in learning a new way to do it.
Look at all the complaints you get every time MS brings out a new OS ver or even just a new Office version.

Yep. Sometimes one needs to tweak the hardware. Even in Windows.

Maybe give http://elementaryos.org/discover a go.

Let her install Windows, (pay for it). Have fun getting the drivers.

The Mint menus seem to be arranged most like Windows menus amongst the distros I've sampled.

You aren't really precise about the nature of her complaints and I reckon she probably wasn't very precise to you either, but, if they have to do with the GUI, I can easily see someone new to KDE being annoyed by the KDE 4.x style menu; it's cumbersome, clumsy, and overly complex. It annoys me too--enough that it's one reason I stopped using KDE after using since v. 3.2. (Akonadi is the other reason).

If that's part of the issue and I'm just guessing, just switching to the classic menu might make a big difference.

I'd say a vanilla Ubuntu (not Kubuntu, KDE just does not seem easy to me) or Mint. If you choose Mint be aware they have 2 types, one from an Ubuntu base and the other from a Debian base. While both Mints are easier than most distros the Debian versions are based on Debian Testing and are subject to the occasional hickup. You could install Debian Squeeze which may take a bit of setting up but it is practically unbreakable once setup.
