Hi

Quick lecture:
Please use helpful thread titles in the future; this would include not including "HELP" in the subject as it's likely you are after help at a Linux help site and, Please post as much information as possible

That said...
Open up a console, and type:
mount /mnt/cdrom
And post up the error message. Post up the result of typing:
cat /etc/fstab
And tell us what kind of media you are trying to mount. Tell us what user you are, and please, give us any other info you feel might be beneficial to us answering your question

Cool

For temporary access log in as superuser;

Code:
mkdir /mnt/cdrom

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
or

Code:
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
for your FDD drive.

You can edit a file called FSTAB in /etc I think, I'm not to sure how though...Good luck with your system though

Is this using Mandrake or Yellow Dog? What windows manager, KDE?

Do you have an icon on the desktop for the cdrom? Clicking on the icon should mount the drive and open a file browser.
