Help!! how to password protect tar and zip files


Can anyone please tell me how to password protect and encrypt tar and gzip archive....

You could try gpg or truecrypt. If you use KDE, its as easy as right click->encrypt file.

Ok that's fine too, gpg defaults to the command line, Kgpg is just a GUI wrapper for it. Google around and see, the steps are fairly straightforward.
