This is a bit confusing...Do you have a working configuration?---ie can you boot into either or both linuxes?

Tell us **everything** on this system.
Post the output of "fdisk -l" (run as root)

Normally, grub goes on the mbr of the first drive. If grub is on a partition, then SOMETHING needs to be on the mbr to point to the partition where grub is.

the grub on FC6 partition /hda7
sorry i am under winxp os now,
fdisk -l should be

/dev/hda1 NTFS Winxp
/dev/hda2 NTFS .....
/dev/hda6 EXT3 Gentoo
/dev/hda7 Ext3 FC6
/dev/hda8 swap swap

I installed grub on FC6 partition Not on MBR.
and then i installed gentoo under FC6, and made the grub.conf and fstab manually.
so all Kernel files are located on FC6 partition

i am using Ntloader to boot different systems up.

I still don't have a complete picture of your system:
  1. What works and what does NOT work?---eg What OSes can you get into?
  2. Since you say that you are using NTLDR, I assume you have grub stage 1 on the Windows partition, and boot.ini setup to point to it.
  3. When you say grub is installed to a partition--do you mean to the boot sector of that partition---eg by running grub shell and then setup (hd0,x)?
