Help ! FIXMBR error Computer won't start!
Hey guys, Heres the situation. A buddy of mine loaded Ubuntu in a partition with the origianl OS Windows XP a while back on an old laptop and I was recently deleting it and unpartitioning the drives when it died. I first got a GRUB 22 error, followed advice to run Fixmbr and Fixboot from the recovery XP cd and then it gave me a NTLDR is missing error. I followed advice and typed in:
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
The ntldr took but the ntdetect.com could not be copied and now the computer can't get past the initial Dell loading screen. It just keeps trying to load at the Dell screen over and over.
Is there a way to Blank everything out and have Xp running with all the partitions together? Everytime I follow LQ advice that has seemed to work for other people it just gets worse. I don't care about the data being lost I just want a working Windows XP OS and no partitions.
