Help FireWire Card is not working in desktop redhat 9.0 / 2.1


All,

I new to Linux. I try to test Oracle rac in redhat env. Here is my configuration

Boxses:
--------------
P3 & p4 destop Compaq/Evo

External hdd case
---------------------
Plumax PM-525C2-PPS DSPMX525C2PPS 1 31.99 *ADDITIONAL* USB /FIREWIRE Silver Combo USB 2.0 & EXTENSION Firewire 1394 External
Enclosure for 5.25 / 3.5

Fire Wire Card
------------------
VIA VT6306 3+1 Port PCI

Internal hdd which is there in external hdd case
------------------------------------------------------------
80GB Western Digital

Tried 2 OS
-------------
Redhat 9.0 & 2.1

Try to setup the same below URL
------------------------------------------

Step 1:
I upgrade the kernel ( rpm -ivh --nodeps kernel-2.4.20-18.10.1.i686.rpm)

Step 2:
To load the kernel modules/drivers with the right options etc., add the following entries to the /etc/modules.conf file:
options sbp2 sbp2_exclusive_login=0
post-install sbp2 insmod sd_mod
post-remove sbp2 rmmod sd_mod

Step 3:
modprobe ohci1394
modprobe sbp2

Step 4:
/usr/local/bin/rescan-scsi-bus.sh

Not identifying external hdd

fdisk -l would not showing external hdd at all.


USB workes fine. Fire Wired worked fine in Windows XP.

Got failed during setup the firewire card in redhat 9.0 & 2.1.

Spend more than a week. Please some one can sugguest me... how can i setup firewire card.

Try with a newer distro or download a 2.6 kernel and compile it with the right firewire modules. Otherwise download Knoppix 3.4 and do what I did:
