Help - error: unknown filesystem
I think I lost all my operating systems... I deleted Kubuntu (don't know which version it was, it was the newest) from my Windows 7 dual boot... it will not boot up, I don't know how to get back to my windows 7.. but I deleted it from the computer management program and deleted the partition completely without uninstalling it.. I think I'm pretty much up a cripple creek without a paddle.
At startup after the BIOS splashscreen it will display this error: error: unknown filesystem grub rescue> I cannot reboot to kubuntu to fix this, and I know Windows 7 is still on there somewhere it's just not letting me do anything where Kubuntu was first on the dual boot. Is there any way to fix this? |
Have you tried F8 for boot otions?
Do you have a windows 7 disk? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...y-options.html http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-options.html |
Lost Windows 7
There is a way.
put your Kububtu??? or ububtu cd in the cd drive and boot off the cd. Most PC's do this without you having to fiddle with the BIOS. Use cfdisk to view your disks and partitions. re-run grub if the partitions are intact and see if you can recover the dual boot function. If part of either operating system has been erased, or if you have formatted either partition you have to re-make your partitions and re-install Windows an ubuntu. You could use another computer to cruise the internet to find rescue software or you could use Ubuntu in the cd and surf from there, you may have to mount one of the partitions to download the software or stick a ram stick in a USB port and use it. Since you deleted the kubuntu partitions grub, the bootloader can not find the grub.cfg file and therefore displays the prompt message you see. You can use the windows installation disk to repair your computer. Run the bootrec utility to restore the MBR. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
To manually boot windows type in the following commands. (This assumes that your windows is on the first partition) set root=(hd0,1) chainloader +1 boot |
