Hi, I need to install an additional php extension to my current installation...however at that particular server php-devel is not installed so i cannot use "phpize" command...my question is.. installing php-devel affects my current php installation ? Does it installs as well a new php installation or it does not affects it at all...?

It shouldn't affect anything. The devel libraries are just the headers and other goodies, that let you compile and develop code, to use whatever you want. Installing the php-devel libraries won't affect your current installation.
so, installing PHP-DEVEL, I have PHP 5.1.6, and running Fedora, I tried yum but did not succeed, is there any other options available for its installation ?
