how can i change my root password

Login as root then type:
passwd

well i need help because i forgot my root pasword and i dont know what to do

Hi,

To change your root password all you have to do is login as the root at the command prompt and type
passwd
This will prompt you to enter the new password.

That's a slightly different monster all together:

Boot up with your install CD, enter rescue mode, and get to a command prompt. Edit /etc/passwd, and remove the "x" in root's entry:
Code:
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
Save, exit, reboot, and this time when you login there will be NO root password, so immediately do the above instructions and set a new root password.
