help


I got a used dell latitude 2120 with the ubuntu opperating system the laptop came with out a username and password for the log in screen.

Have you ever used GNU/Linux before? Because it might be easier just to reinstall

If it was set up for you, try user=user & root=root (or toor), otherwise you will have to ask for them from who you bought it.

Warning: Don't use an email address as a user name unless you want to receive a lot of spam mails!

(There are ways to change them, but I think that would be beyond your present skills.)

when was that ubuntu installed onto that laptop?

Welcome to the forum

If the copy of Ubuntu was not set up for you, I would wipe it and re-install with a distribution of your choice. However, if there is a restore partition, be careful not to delete that!

I also agree with fatmac, using your email address as your username is a bad idea, it makes a good SPAM magnet.
