what is a yum repositories

Hi and welcome to LQ.

A repository is just a source of packages
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_repository

Yum is an rpm based package manager used by distros like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Fedora, and some more.

So a yum repository is a place that yum takes its packages from.

Please read the LQ Rules about posting...using a subject like "Help" tells no one anything about your question. And did you try putting that question into Google, before posting a question about it???

A repository is a source of software packages (either online, disk, CD/DVD, or however you want to set it up), that lets your system(s) access updates and new software from a central location.
