moving files
im trying to move a file to /usr/local from the desktop and it keeps telling me that i dont have permition to do this -- how do i get permition

firstly, you read the rules and various instructions about posting threads with stupid titles.
Secondly, if you open a terminal window and then do an "su" (no quotes) command, put in the root password when asked, then just do the move as normal. If you need to do that graphically, then you'll need to be logged in as root's graphic interface account. regards John. p.s. the first one isn't to "jump down your throat" but half the time, those people here, who have valuable knowledge will not bother answering post's, where the "postee" doesn't have the manners to identify the problem in a proper way! |
