Hello, This is my first post. - iptables status on RHel5

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I have been in the data communications filed for 30+ years. Most of my work now has changed from legacy protocols and wired links to IP & wireless. I have been on the periphery of Linux for many years - having started with a Ydrasil distro, but still consider myself somewhat of a newbie - in some areas, anyway. I hope I can be of help to someone sometime, as I have had a lot of help from this forum.
I think I have resolved the problem which led me to registering in this forum, but would like if someone can confirm that RHel 5 iptables status does return a list of instated rules, as confirmation that iptables is indeed running.
Thanks,
zapo

Hi Zapo,

"/etc/init.d/iptables status" (alternatively "/sbin/service iptables status") will produce the same results as "iptables -nvL" (Assuming the privellages are set right) if iptables is active in RHEL and other Fedora based distributions. If iptables is not running then it will say "iptables is stopped".

As you're running RHEL 5, I can highly recommend bookmarking this (if you haven't already); http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ion/index.html

... and Welcome to LQ
