Hello everyone.

I am new to this forum and to the world of Linux in general. Yes yes... I am a n00b...

I have thought many times about switching to a Linux system, so I can run Shake 4.1 on my old PC at home.

I downloaded the latest version of Unbutu from their website cause I heard that is it the most friendly Linux version.

So any last suggestion before I start installing ?

go for it. o and you mite also want to give KDE and Kubuntu a shot aswel. KDE look a wee bit more like windows, so may make changing easier. Both are very good though. have a look around, see some screen and see what you think.

Actually I believe that SimplyMepis is probably the most newbie friendly distro, but Ubuntu isn't exactly difficult either.

Just remember that Linux isn't Windows and you'll do fine. Take your time and learn what you need to know to do what you want to do. It'll be different but with the right attitude it will also be fun.

I would suggest you back up anything that is of any value to you if you are going to install it besides windows on the same harddisk. Even if it's on a second harddisk - everything that can go wrong will go wrong.

Do an md5sum check, and a cd integrity check (you get the option when you boot from the install cd.).

I am now in the middle of the installing process. Since I am new to the world of Linux in General and to Ubuntu in particular, then I take my time and do things slowly and dsafely. I use also a lot of books for beginners. :study:
