hello everyone.
 

well i am slowly making progress with my suse 9.1 and unreal tournament 2004.i have UT on my alienware machine,and still cant get any sound in game,and still no media player of any kind works so i can play music cd's.i have removed my audigy soundcard,hoping it might fix any conflict issues,but no luck there.on 2 pc's and a lap top,i have no media player working.i have UT going on my best comp,and it still crashes.on another pc,the splash screen comes and then it crashes.no error,nothing.my music cds go in,and then to cddb,and all the info is there,just not connected to any sound card.i have done my online update on both pc's.i have done nvidia drivers in the updates and have 3 d enabled as well.i do have system sounds on all 3 computers.please do let me know what other info i need to gather,and how to do that and i shall re post and share.i REALLY need to get my music/sound working.

Ummm, Im not much of an expert on this matter, but if you have system sound but have issues related to cds, it may be necessary to plug the (normally supplied with drive) audio cable from the back of your Samsung DVD/CD-RW to your Soundblaster Audigy Card. If this dosent work, or you've already done it, I'm no help. As for the crashing of UT, can't help you. sorry.

i dont think it is the wire thingie,it all worked to perfection with windows.

Windows and Linux play audio CDs differently, Kscd has an option to not need to the analogue cable but you need to explicitly set it and XMMS has a plugin to make it work. Just because something worked in Windows doesn't mean it'll work in linux.

Ordinarily you get sound without the audio wire to the motherboard within Windows, but in Linux, due to lack of compatibility with specific hardware setups, you need the cable. If you don't have the cable, you can download plugins or set up most media applications to operate with fully working sound.
