Hello Computer People

Im just saying hello. Ive just installed Mandriva as a dual boot with XP. Im TOTALY INTIMIDATED already. I dont understand a bit of it (I dont even know how to shut down the machine under Linux). I cant get my wireless card working (I think i may have messed up DNS settings). For some reason my cdrom drive gives some message about some guy named HAL. Im lost now, but im sure one day i'll get the hang of it. Im doing the Prosoft CIW, so i realy need to learn this stuff thoroughly. Has anyone got a recomendation on books that will teach me (in a newbe fashion) about this style of operating system from start to finish?
TIA. Stuart.

I would start with the RUTE tutorial.

From there I would go to the Linux Documentation Project and read some of the things there.

Maybe start with:
-Introduction to Linux - A hand's on Guide
-Bash Guide for Beginner's
-GNU/Linux command line tools summary
-Linux system Administrator's Guide

I recommend the Linux Online-Linux Courses at linux.org. They have three separate courses; beginner, intermediate, and advance. The courses give a bunch of information in a clear and concise way. I lived on this site for weeks when I started out using Linux. They also have short lessons and how-tos as well.
