Hedhat 8 HD 120gb

I try to install Redhat 8 on my HD 120gb but the fdisk cannot see the rest of the space left on the HD. I have instaled Windows 2000 on the first partition (14GB) and have two others partitions of 40GB on windows and I have 20gb of free disk space. Disk druid can see the free space but when i try to creat the " / " partititon gives a error (cannot creat / partition).

All the partitions under Windows are NTFS (HPFS) but I dont see any trouble about that.

Redhat 8 support 120gb HDs???

hmm why rh8 ? rh 9 or fc1 is a better choice i would say but if u decided to stick to rh 8 then i suggest trying parted or partion magic 1 of them should do the job if not then try rh 9 with ext3 type of partions.goodluck:jawa:

With a few assumptions:
Your selecting auto partition using free space but the default will create 3 partitions:
/boot
swap
/ (root)

However even though you have sufficient disk space the disk isn't partitioned correctly. The installer wants to create 3 primary partitions but can only create two since the total is 4 primary partitions.

Your drive is probably partition as:
hda1 - c (14gb)
hda2 - extended
hda5 - d (40GB)
hda6 - e (40GB)

The extended partition in a nutshell is a container for logical partitions i.e. for your two 40GB drives. I suspect its size to be 80GB i.e the sum of the two additional drives therefore the installer can not create additional logical drives.

You will need to resize the extended partition to include the 20GB of free space. parted is a linux utility that can resize partitions.

Redhat 8

Probably it will be this, in fdisk I only can create four primary partitions and they are already in use,I gona try to change the type of the two partitions of 40gb that are as primary to extended to be able to install Tanks for the post if works I tell you.

My partitions are:
hda1 - 8mb free space
hda2 - 14gb (HPFS)
hda3 - 40gb (HPFS)
hda4 - 40gb (HPFS)
hda5 - 20gb free space
