Heap of Problems

Hello
i recently installed Knoppix (not running live). Now i have a lot of problems starting with everytime i use apt-cache i get a segmentation error, haven't found any forums on this. Next when i use apt-get i get
E: Dynamic Mmap ran out of room
E: Error occured while processing libticalcs4 (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/mirrors.kernel.org_debian_dist_stable_main_binary-i386
_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

I read the forums relating to the Dynamic Mmap error and made the text file in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/
0aptconf and added APT::Cache-Limit "50000000"; in the body and wrote that into the emacs buffer not sure if that's exactly what i was supposed to do the instructions were a little hazy. But that didn't work or do anything as far as i know. The whole reason i even installed a hard copy of Knoppix was to get FLashplayer and some program to watch streaming video. I not sure why those don't come included in Knoppix to begin with. Likewise if you could solve my apt problem then perhaps someone might tell me where/how to get those files/plugins and if a way to view Flash and streaming video is included in Knoppix how i might access that. Futhermore i'd like to know how to add users to the sudoers file so i don't have to keep logging on as root, i read a few forums on that as well but they didn't help me at all. I tryed a /usr/sbin/base-config (only way i know how ) to reconfigure my apt settings as they somehow went from only-free to non-free and it would download the updates just fine read parse everything but then reprompt me to configure them again. Without asking me if i wanted another apt source. I also tryed an auto-clean that didn't help at all.
P.S Knoppix can't find my sound card drivers on the hard disk copy but found them fine while i ran it live.
Please help me fix this as well. The error i get now is Error while initializing the sound driver "device /dev/dsp can't be opened(No such device)

Most importantly tho ......my gnuchess program is all messed up last game i played i ended up with 3 Kings and then one of them (my original King) was replaced by a kNight and then that was replaced by a pawn ...on my 1st row .. is this abnormal ? or does the programmer just have a good sense of humor ?

Thx in advance
puesdo.

--first of all, I honestly don't get what you mean by saying hard copy of Knoppix OVER IT Do you mean here that you installed Knoppix in place of previous Debian?
Or that "apt-get" can be issued on a Debian running.
It seems that you are not booting from live cd right? correct me if i got it wrong. memory issue suggest that you are running or booted from a live cd.

Well anyway, after you clarify this point I know somebody else will help you.

goodluck
