HDA problems on knoppix

Hello,

i'm using knoppix because my xp messed up and i'm using the cd so it's not installed (knoppix live). I can see my hard drive (hda1) and i can access all the files but for some reason i cannot delete anything or i cannot copy something to my hda (or we can say i cannot read/write). Any idea how can i fix it?

Thanks

DO you know if the XP drive was formatted with NTFS? If it was I think that's your problem. I do not know of a way other then blanking that drive and starting fresh to get Linux installed on it... Well thinking about it as I write this you could use something like partition magic and resize the disk and give you some free space so you can install it.

My 2:twocents: .... So take it for what it's worth..

Well i thought about installing linux but the thing is i have 17 gb of very important files and i cannot format the hardisk. What i'm tryin to do is i want to be able to copy files to my hard drive or delete files from my hard drive so this way i can download the programs that will fix the stupid xp and copy them to the windows harddrive. This is my wifes comp so i'm not even thinking about formating the c: and installing linux. I just need to be able to delete and copy files to hda1. Please help i'm sure the answer is so easy :(

thanks
