hda-lost interrupt, trying to disable acpi

i have an intel p4 laptop with mostly SiS based chipsets in it. When trying to install Mandrake I get an hda: lost inerrupt. I tried using Fedora, which installed fine, but after running, I get the same message. I read in some posts about disabling acpi to try and fix the problem, but im not sure im doing it right. i am working with fedora, using grub2 as the boot loader, and when i edit the line, the changes dont seem to be saved. so i went into interactive startup, and made sure the acpid did not start, but i get the same message. am i missing something? does someone have something to try?

ps - i did not see anything on the compatability lists that should give me a problem, but i was mostly looking at boards and ide controllers at the time...
