Post Having troubles installing ndiswrapper.

When i'm trying to install ndiswrapper 1.16 to Fedora 5 ( Fully updated with automatic updates) , after typing make it says:

[root@localhost ndiswrapper-1.16]# make
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/admin/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.16/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.16-1.2111_FC5/build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/admin/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.16/driver'
make: *** [all] Error 2

When i go to /lib/modules/2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 and try to open "build" file it says :
This link can't be used, because its target "/usr/src/kernels/2.6.16-1.2111_FC5-i686" doesn't exist.

And , when I go to the /usr/src/ there is only one folder - Red Hat .

I'm a Linux first-timer , and I'm looking forward for your help.

Thank you.

Try installing kernel-devel rpm package to match that version...

You should be able to just type...

yum install kernel-devel

They try to rebuild ndiswrapper. Alternatively, read up on the Livna repository... http://rpm.livna.org/configuration.html#Core5

After you type

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm

...you may be able to install a precompiled ndiswrapper.

yum install ndiswrapper

Many times, errors when you try to compile programs are because certain other libraries or source code is not installed. In the case of the kernel, you'll have "kernel" package with the binary, and "kernel-devel" with the source and configuration, in case other programs need to look at how your kernel was compiled, so to say.

Did you configure your yum for use with livna as I mentioned? I just verified that ndiswrapper is at livna...

type

whereis ndiswrapper

It may say something like /usr/bin

Try typing...

/usr/bin/ndiswrapper
