Having trouble installing things such as chromium and steam

I recently installed Chrubuntu and am attempting to install "things". I have used Ubuntu in the past and had no trouble but for some reason whenever I try to install something the Software Center says the program is in an unsupported format. Is there some sort of step I need to take before installing programs?

Have you updated the package lists after installing Chrubuntu? I have never seen that message, but maybe yours are out of date causing the error.

Which Chromebook, Samsung (ARM) or Acer (Celeron). What does your sources.list look like?
