hi

my name is charles burgess and i was wondering how to defrag linux plz my comp is so slow

jailbait 05-14-2008 10:46 PM

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Linux file systems do not become fragmented except sometimes when the file system is close to 100% full. So defragmenting a Linux file system is a waste of time. If you want to do it anyway then copy all of the files to another partition, delete all of the files in the file system, and then copy the files back.

is there a anti virus for linux i need any thing to make my comp run faster

gilead 05-14-2008 11:59 PM

I don't know of much specifically for Linux viruses - but there are tools like clamav that can do on-demand scanning as well as scanning on a mail gateway. Can you give some info about how you expect it to make your computer run faster? Are you concerned that you're Linux box is infected - if so, what makes you think that?

hey

for a while my comp would let me play my game with no lag now all of a sunddon my linux is realy slow and i have no clue how to fix it

Put your distro name and version in your profile section.
Tell us what game & ver and whether its running locally or from elsewhere.
Run the cmd top and show us the output, both before and whilst running the game.
Need more info...

help

is there a way to make video games run faster and linux run better

pixellany 05-15-2008 12:21 AM

This duplicates at least two of your other posts. Please do not keep starting new threads with basically the same issues.
Reported for closure

PS: You have not responded to people trying to help you. Also, I see you did get your profile edited, but now you need to tell us the distribution (version) of Linux---just saying "linux" tells us nothing.

Also use better thread titles than "help", which you are told not to do when you post a thread.

First of all a little about LQ etiquette please don't post the same question twice.

Secondly, please be a little more descriptive then "lots of trouble" in the subject line.

If you want help, you are going to need to provide a bit more information about your system. I don't think there is a person on earth that can answer the question the way you phrased it.

What type of computer are you using? What is the speed of the cpu?
How much memory do you have? Which linux distro are you using?

As someone else stated, open up a console (little black box)
and type "top" Post your results.

Play the game and post the results again.
