Has Ubuntu 8.04 on an HP dv6205us and is having trouble with wireless connect.

Hey everyone. I'm sure this question is overdone by now but here's the issue. As pertaining to the OS and laptop model, a connection to the internet is being made but there is no signal. The wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01). Trying to connect to a Linksys G router, fairly recent model. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. And by the way, my wife and I are new to this so detailed explainations are a must. Thanx.

Did you install the firmware for the wireless card ?

Quote:
New b43 and b43-legacy Drivers

The current (Spring 2008, kernel 2.6.24) wireless-2.6 branch of the linux kernel provides two new unified wireless drivers, called b43 and b43-legacy. These drivers replace the old WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx. The reason there are two is that b43 works with v4 broadcom firmware and b43-legacy works with the v3 firmware. New b43 driver still doesn't work without proprietary firmware, which isn't included in Ubuntu and must be downloaded separately, using b43-fwcutter package (from Ubuntu universe) or simply by installing b43-firmware package from http://ubuntu.cafuego.net (from Hardy distribution). New b43 driver doesn't work with old bcm43xx firmware.
The option for installing the firmware from that other repoistory would probably be easier for you..
